Hello, I'm Elizabeth and I'm Addicted to Stampin' Blends
I work four 10-hour days a week and have Friday off, so with Independence Day being on Thursday this year, I took two hours of vacation time on Thursday and had a four weekend! Not too shabby, huh? Charlie told me last weekend that I could do anything I wanted on Thursday LOL (I would have anyway, but took that to mean that he wouldn't make any requests for my time and had to push the point a couple of times. 😒 But anywhoo, with a day to do whatever I wanted and a Blends class coming up the next Friday I wanted to work on the samples for the cards we would be making and make some additional samples of how beautiful you can really make blends look when you take your time and work at it.
That being said, I have made some gorgeous things, if I do say so myself. This is going to be a lot of pictures, and few words...believe it or not! If you have any questions, ask me in a comment and I'll be happy to answer! I made four cards. One of them is one of the cards we will be making in class on Friday. I am confident that their flowers will be just as beautiful as mine are! Maybe I'll do a follow up post of their cards next week!
With no further ado: A Study on Bloom & Grow
Flowers in Pink
The flowers are stamped colored on Thick Whisper White and outlined in light Pool Party. After being die cut, they are mounted on Shimmery White for contrast. |
I added Rose Metallic Thread behind the sentiment for visual interest. |
Here you can see that the Chalk Marker was used to add highlights. |
Wonderful Glitter
This card has a window box-feel to me. Well, maybe a port hole-feel! LOL |
I used the new Shimmer White Stampin' Emboss Powder. That is all. |
I am in love with these three pink flowers! But the center one is my new BFF. I just love how the flower just came alive when I colored the outside of the petals in the darker yellow and highlighted the bottom of the petals in dark Flirty Flamingo that is very gently blended with light Flirty Flamingo; they are both then blended almost to the edge of the petal with light Petal Pink. Mwah! |
Heart of Gold
This is one of the cards that we are making in the Blends workshop on Friday! I love it so much! |
I focused just on this center flower so you could really contrast how different it is than the same flower that's in the blue card just above. The only difference is the intensity of the colors in these two flowers. The yellow on the outside of these petals is Mango Melody as opposed to Daffodil Delight on the upper card, and I covered much more area with Flirty Flamingo on this flower, and didn't add any Petal Pink. |
I love this little corner! You can see the little gold leaf peaking out, and I tucked a small bouquet into the corner. You can see above, hugging the edge of the heart, that I added at least one of each of the tiny extra pieces from this set to the element in this card. I even added three gold flowers with sparkly centers. This card has Extra. |
Floral Birthday
Are there even words to talk about this card? I cut happy birthday out with the Well Said dies, glued them to a small piece of vellum, and then when everything else was in place and complete I glued the vellum to the edges of the flowers! |
I used three of these wild rose sprays for this card. The coherence through the card is the dark leaves (Pretty Peacock and Shaded Spruce) and the background of Soft Sea Foam. All three of the sprays happen to have a purple rose which was unplanned. This rose is Purple Posey. Purple Posey takes many layers of ink to get good contrast! |
You can see in this photo that I added some gold glimmer leaves and some of the additional small elements from the stamp set to this card also. This yellow/red/orange rose is where I tried to blend light Real Red into Mango Melody using light Daffodil Delight, eh, not so much! I do want to point out a win though, look at the tiny four petal flowers; I colored them with light Flirty Flamingo, went back and added a dot to the center with the dark blend, and then blended it out with the light blend. It made a really pretty flower I think! |
Where's the third rose?? It was too big and the spray was the wrong shape for this spot, so I carefully trimmed it off! Then it needed something vertical so I added that Pretty Peacock leaf cluster. This center rose is light Rococo Rose and light Petal Pink (I wanted a color lighter than Rococo Rose and less pink than Flirty Flamingo) and the other is Highland Heather. The small yellow flowers really do look pretty next to the purple, don't they? I see another gold glimmer leaf peaking out, too. |
I must admit that coloring the flowers and the tiny extra bits took me more than Thursday! Well, I also got the other cards for the Workshop finished, so I didn't color JUST these, but still...hours of work! I cut them out on Friday and then stayed up until 3:00 AM on Friday night finishing these cards! Seriously! If you know me at all, then you know how excited I was about them to stay op that late!
I hope you love these cards and that the illustration feel of the flowers inspires you to get your blends out and practice!
Joyful Blending,
Elizabeth
P.S. I think the key to this look is to color around the outside of the image (and any inside part that is trapped inside) with light pool party and to cut out your element.
